Some of my doctors are very nice here – some not so – and in all my years in Canada there had been some people in the hospital who have made my life a lot easier and encouraged me when I was having difficulty with my health issues. And because of them – I have had better control of my health now – but what do you give those doctors who have everything money can buy? I don’t really want to buy some generic thing just because – so the spouse said some cufflinks in a nice gift box would be a really nice gesture. So knowing that one of them is leaving the town to start a practice in Halifax – I decided to get him a nice cufflink as a thank you gift and hope that whenever he wears it – he will remember me.

A couple of years ago, when I had my huge operation to take out my fibroid, the nurses down at the blood transfusion center treated me really well. I’ve always kept in touch with them and each time I visit the doctors, I would drop in and say hi. Some are transferred to another department but some are still there and I say these nurses don’t get enough credit. So last Christmas, I decided to get some discount scrubs from Marcus and not just ordinary ones – some really fun looking scrubs as presents for them all. They all loved the ones with the owl print and the scrubs sells from $5.99 – so they were really worth getting for these nurses. I wished more patients would appreciate the good nurses a lot more.

It’s that time of the year again – and once again – we had to order the Flu Mist for Missy Moo for her flu shots – from our local pharmacy. I had ordered it about a week ago – and yesterday I was told it was available – so I made the appointment to have Missy Moo get her flu shots today. We had to pick up the vaccine before leaving for the doctor’s and had to have them on ice pack – while they were packing the vaccine for me – I also noticed they were using a very nice and small printer – unlike ours that is quite big and white in color and pretty dirty by this time. The Epson TM-T88V that they were using was black in color and it was pretty small as compared to ours at our business – and being black in color – i can see that it won’t show that it is dirty after a few years like ours.

After collecting the vaccine – I went back to our store – and I told Mr Moo about the receipt printer I saw there – I like the fact that it was really fast when it printed out my receipt – unlike the one we are using. An auto cutter is always good for a printer – then I don’t have to worry tearing receipts out for our customers in horrible shape. And a new receipt printer like Epson has a 4 yrs warranty. We might consider the Epson TM-T88V for our next printer – when ours goes out of service – I guess the pharmacy must have some good tech savvy guy working and buying their electronics for them.

My girlfriend from home just emailed to me to let me know that my gynae from home will be in the new gynecologist center build right in the middle of town. She showed me pictures of the currently to be built plot and all the excavators on site using their hydraulic hose heavy machines to put the building up together. I am envious of course – because where I am living now – we are so much in need of a new gynecologist center here. What I’m seeing is a lot of old age home build and nursing home – in preparation for the older generation – but you would think with all the pregnancy in this town – and all the babies born here – they would also focus on getting a new gynae center as well as gynecologist right? but doctors are so hard to come by in this town – because we are at the end of the province. We only have 1 hospital in this town – that needs to cater to a 7000 population and around our town as well. So if there are lots of babies coming at the same time – you can understand why I say we do new a new gynecologist center with better equipments too.

The outlaws just informed me during Thanksgiving supper that we were invited for another wedding next year – and the entire family will be going to New Brunswick for the wedding of the cousin. But this time, they are not going to stay in a hotel – since the entire family from down here is going – they are looking for houses for rent for a week and treat that as a summer vacation. It’s a good way for the entire clan across Canada and United States to get together. So they want us to plan our vacation time around the wedding as well. I would love to go – since I haven’t been to New Brunswick for a vacation except for a drive thru’ while going to Maine, so that would be very nice. Plus everyone needs a vacation every now and then to relax and I love family gatherings and BBQs. I told the outlaws that I wasn’t going to be cleaning house while on vacation – so if they are looking for a rental house for the vacation or a seaside apartment – they have to make sure there is maid service as well.

So Macdonald’s announced that they are providing our children a healthier meal – that still involves 500 calories a meal – hardly any healthier for a 7 years old you would think. But having said that – we do have to give our kids some junk food right ? yes, kids need to have some junk every now and then and shouldn’t we the parents be responsible for our kid’s diet instead of making Macdonald’s change their menu – to make us think that bad parents are good ones?
Missy Moo eats fries and nuggets every now and then – she wants the fries more than the nuggets and the toy and yes we are lucky because she never ask for a lot of junk food. But we also make sure that she gets her exercise – she drinks lots of water and no pop – and lots of running around. So Macdonald’s may be changing the happy meals in Fall but it’s still up to us parents to do the right thing and not push the fast food restaurant to do surface changes.

So you are married to a Westerner and you migrated to the West – whether in Canada or in Australia or even in United States and you just had your baby. We Asians believed in feeding ourselves with lots of ginger after the birth and also certain special food – but wait a minute – your in-laws may feel differently about your breastfeeding because your baby keeps crying and not latching on properly. This was exactly what happened to me – but listen don’t let anyone tell you that your food may be causing baby to have colic and therefore all the crying – because it is not true. After all, for 1000s of years before now – our grandmothers, mothers and great grandmothers were breast feeding us – so we survived and so will our kids.

Our hormones are topsy turvy and everything seems to be harder and you feel sensitive and all without any help or the weather too hot or too cold. But it’s not your fault – because there is actually nothing wrong with you. Don’t let your spouse or anyone tell you that you should stop eating your food. Trust me – ! you will regret it – and there is nothing wrong with the food we had been eating all along.

We just received a long time friend’s birth announcements and I had gone to visit her in the hospital and to congratulate her. Of course, the main idea was to see the baby and take some pictures. She had a safe delivery but her pregnancy was not completely easy – as I can still see the swollen feet when I visited. I felt so bad for her – when she had told me about it during pregnancy but had also assured her that as soon as the baby comes – the swelling will subside immediately.

I didn’t have the same trouble when I was pregnant – so I was lucky – but not all women are that lucky – in fact I’ve known a lot of my friends having the same problem. So if you are pregnant and your feet starts swelling don’t be alarm – because it is because of water retention called Edema. Many people don’t know why they get water retention – and it’s because your baby and your uterus are putting more pressure on your veins therefore the your circulation isn’t as good and therefore your tissues starts swelling. Many people also think that because of swollen feet – you should not drink so much water – but that’s not true – drink plenty of water – because baby and you need it. And hang in there – and time flies really quick and soon enough you and baby will meet and during your baby announcement – you won’t even remember about your swollen feet.

As outdated as this town is – like I’ve always complained – the family clinic I go to – is very high tech – all the doctors used a laptop to note down all their diagnosis and these information is then shared it around the office – in which even the receptionist knows when the doctor needs the next appointment with you – without having to go to the front desk to tell the receptionist. Highly efficient too – because I don’t see them digging thru’ files all the time when I am there. They also uses a remote data backup from what I understand – which I got interested in – because of the large amount of paperwork we do at our store too.

I took an interest and read up on the recovery manager software program – and showed Mr Moo as they were not expensive whatsoever – so for a peace of mind – and not have to worry about losing any important files and information – Mr Moo will look into getting this program. I would definitely feel less stressful once we have that program for our store. You never fail to learn a thing or two from your family clinic that’s for sure.

Many people don’t have a job that they liked – most people work in a certain profession because they desperately need the money and they really have no choice. Maybe, that’s why our teachers and parents always asked us what we want to be when we grow up – when we were kids – perhaps, the reason behind it was to try and prepare us to make the right choice so that we will work towards a job that we will love for health reason. Can you imagine going into a job everyday for the rest of your life and not loving it? now that must be very stressful. Job applications like charlotte jobs has many jobs online – and it would be nice if everyone found a job they like right? I can’t imagine working for someone now that I’ve always worked with the Mr Moo – but loving your job is definitely important – but that doesn’t mean that having your own business doesn’t have its own stress issues though – we just have a different set. But for now – Mr Moo loves what he is doing – and so do I. I hope for everyone’s health – you all find a job that you love to wake up every morning to.

Grim is not the word for the ER situation in this town. For as long as I can remember – one if unlucky can wait up to 10 hours to get to see the doctor – whether you have a disability insurance or not. Missy Moo was covered with hives (we didn’t know at the time) they thought it was chicken pox and she was barely over a year old – and they made us sit there for 8 hrs – before she got to see a doctor – to be given Benadryl. How frustrating is it for a new parent – who has to work the next day with no help? very! but just as frustrating for the ER doctors for now they are stating that there is just not enough ER doctors in this town.

But H E L L O ! this isn’t new at all – but what are they doing since it has been 10 yrs and it’s still going on. Complaining and pushing the blame on the obvious is hardly the solution you think? plus all are so highly educated – you would think they could do much better than lip service. While it is good to be thorough with every patient – we hardly got more than 10 minutes at the ER – no wonder Mr Moo hates going to ER here. I don’t know if the disability people get special treatment but I honestly hope that they prioritize – give the old and the kids first priority and then the rest. But having said such – I was taken in immediately after my 10 days surgery – and was having trouble – so whose fault is this shortage of doctors? THE GOVERNMENT!

While back home our hospital is equipped with wifi around the entire hospital – I was told that I wouldn’t be able to get a connection at ours here in town because they are afraid that providing wifi will get their system hacked *rolled eyes*. So I didn’t even bring my miniportables when I stayed in the hospital the last time. I feel bad for those who are there for more than a week or two – what are they going to do without a laptop/netbook the whole time there? Sure the hospital is a place to get well and all – but not to stay connected the whole time – now that doesn’t seems right? what about the spouse who is visiting or the kids? wouldn’t it be great if they can do their homework there or read while visiting their loved ones? You all know what i mean right? sure the hospital isn’t a place for anyone to visit for a long time – but the special cases like me? paranoid and have panic attacks? who need the spouse around all the time? I remember poor Mr Moo bored outta his mind every day in the hospital with me – now if they had the wifi – he could get connected to work – and do all his work at the hospital while staying with me. I think i should definitely write to the hospital administration and ask for Wifi in the hospital area – in this time and age – surely they know what to do – to block hackers.

My family doctor – at the hospital had gone paperless for the longest time and I’m really proud of them – because I think they are the first doctor’s office to be using a scanner software for going paperless. At first, I didn’t find it that useful because some of the doctors typed so slow and were getting use to the software – but I’ve noticed that the regular doctors now are so much faster when they are recording your diagnosis and doing up prescription. So yes, they print out all your prescription and any blood work you need done right from this software. Pretty impressive and I think the rest of the clinics here may be slowly adopting to go paperless as well. Now if only the doctors in the hospital can do that too – wouldn’t that be great? less paperwork for the nurses and the hospital admin – like my dear friend, Lynette.

Last month the walls of my favorite pharmacy across the road collapsed and the co-owner said that he was trying to figure out how he wanted the building to look like in the next millennium – and when I saw him the other day – I suggested metal buildings because they can withstand all sorts of weather and they are very popular where I come from. Most of our buildings here are built by stones and bricks – and as you can see from the picture above – source – from our local paper – pretty unsafe. In fact, whenever we get hit by a big storm or bad weather – I get worried. Some people think that metal buildings are only for warehouses and gyms – but that’s not true – because back home we have homes build with metal buildings and they are awesome looking. I do love our pharmacy and the people who works and own it – I really hope they would consider a better alternative when rebuilding – and not just repairing.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed but this year – we’ve done a lot of things different in our lives – we made more them for ourselves and we are exercising more and I’m also sleeping earlier than usual – and not working as much as we did last year. In the basement – our recreation room – we also intend to put a billiard table – so that the spouse and his friends can come over and shoot some balls to de-stress instead of going to the pub to do it. The reason why I don’t want to go either is because of all the smoking going on in the pub and the drinking involved. Investing in a billiard table and billiards supplies is going to prove a lot more useful than wasting our money to go to the pub or a billiard room. Once we get a good price for both billiard table and supplies – I’ll post up more pictures – can’t wait to shoot some pool.
