Kids With Better Teeth

You know when we were kids – my mom didn’t teach us how to floss our teeth nor taught us to use mouth wash – it was very much later – when we were in our late teens before we knew all about this – and learned how to take care of our teeth better.  Thank God !  there was still time.  Missy Moo is really lucky because both Mr Moo and I are very careful with regards to her health -  so when we found this – it’s not a mouth wash for kids – but a temporarily tinting on her teeth to help her brush her teeth better.  It doesn’t have alcohol and it comes in two flavors – a minty one and a bubble gum one – so no prizes for guessing which one we bought – and only less than $6 at your pharmacy – it can help your kids get better teeth.

Feeding Your Kid Healthy

Sometime I cringed when I see the food that Missy Moo’s friends eat – I can’t imagine feeding Missy Moo the same way her friends are being fed.  We cook our meals at home for Missy Moo especially when she is going to school – and we buy fresh food and cook them as fresh as we can.   Feeding your kid healthy is important – but you also have to give her time to play, jump around and roll around the floor once in a while.   We haven’t eaten at Macdonald’s the whole summer – because besides home cooked food – the only junk food she eats is fish and chips and only once a week at the most.   We give her lots of fruits but that doesn’t mean she don’t get treats – she does – but while her friends’ parents give them a whole bag of junk – Missy Moo only get 1 or 2 pieces.  I’m happy that we trained Missy Moo this way – because if she does wanna stuff herself silly – she can – but we know she will feel so sick and she will regret it big time.  Feeding your kid healthy is important – but it’s just as important to educate them.

Body Fat Monitor For Children

Very high tech these days – but can you blame businessmen who wants to make money out of fat kids?  these days – kids are given all sorts of things to put into their mouth.   I see it so often in Missy Moo’s school – I sometimes feel like squealing.  When a kid is obese – it’s the parent’s fault – for not feeding them properly and giving them enough exercise and fresh air.  So parents – step up and be the role model for your kids – don’t be slackers now – so that you don’t fall pry on things like a body fat monitor for your kids.

But walking the talk is important – this is what I do for Missy Moo – both of her meals are home cooked even when she has to eat in school or in camp.  We make sure that she eats a fruit after each meal – and we also give her a small treat each day with a snack.  Our take out or restaurant food for Missy Moo – is pan fried fish and some fries – but half a portion instead of a full portion.  As for ice cream desserts – she only gets half of it.   We keep her active all summer – by sending her to day camp and on weekends – she gets to spend with her grandparents outdoor.  So if you kid is overweight or obese – you should be the one worrying and not them – you can’t expect them to eat carrot sticks – while you eat loads of donuts.  So parents – step up now!

Parents Of Allergic Kids

When you kid is allergic to something that you don’t know – life can be pretty darn scary – and Missy Moo have had allergies for the longest time – and for the life of us – we cannot figure out what she is allergic to.  Once – she had hives so bad – that it covered her entire body and she was like only 2 years old.  But does it mean that we don’t allow her to do anything or eat anything ?  definitely not – but i know it can be stressful for parents – and i can fully understand it.  For Mr Moo – he is quite gung -ho about it – or should I say he has the tidak – apa attitude – and he doesn’t worry too much about it.  His attitude is – when it happens – I will deal with it then.  But for a mom – we all know that we are very worried most times – but it doesn’t have to be – so I’ve been told – by stressing ourselves up – the kid will be stressed too.  So relax – take the extra precaution and make sure everyone in camp or school knows that she has allergies but you don’t know what it is.  If you are trying any new food or new shampoo – make sure to do it in small portions.   Things happen  – so don’t beat yourself up – if your kid gets the hive.

Exercising With New Ping Pong Table

While Missy Moo was at the Y – last week doing her karate class – i sat at the recreation room waiting to pick her up.  But as soon as she got out – she wanted to play with the toys at the recreation room and one of them was at the ping pong table aka table tennis.  I used to play table tennis in school because the bats were cheap to buy when we were kids – and I played pretty well at it too.  But it had been a long time since i played ping pong but am glad that I was able to give Missy Moo some ping pong tips .  We played for like 30mins and I was sweating profusely – that reminded me that playing ping pong is also a form of exercise and I’ve seen some people selling ping pong tables on the yard sale at home.  So if I do see one cheap enough I might just get one to put in our basement and use the ping pong table as a form of exercise – especially during winter.  Now Mr Moo can’t say there are no games he can play with me – for I refused to play computer games or game console games with him.  I love playing games but just not those you have to sit around and become a potato couch.

Stress Free Vacation

So I want a stress free vacation this summer and didn’t want to spend too much money – but I also didn’t want to be out of touch with the rest of the world – most importantly I want to make sure work can reach us and us them.  So Mr Moo suggested camping at the lodge in Shelburne County and all we needed was to bring a long a cell booster home – that way we can be sure we can use our iPhone and cellphones.   Mr Moo has one for the car – and it worked very well – for him especially if he had to travel for work in some remote area.  I remembered that he was using it many years ago – when he was a traveling salesman – yes that he was – and I was still in Asia then.  So yes – we can have a tent outside when the weather is good – or just camp out in the lodge and make campfires and roast some marshmallows with Missy Moo and watch old movies but not loose contact with the store – with a cell phone booster.   I’m really hoping for a stress free vacation.

Summer Swim

Missy Moo has a busy summer this year – from Summer camp – to Karate classes in the evening.  We also signed her up to learn swimming this summer – for she really must know how to swim not only for health reasons but for safety reasons.  We never had swimming classes when we were young – we learned how to swim myself – through trials and error  (well – drinking lots of pool chlorine water).  We bought her an outdoor watch by suunto and hopefully she would wear it for all her summer activities.   We bought another ladies golf watch – for her aunt – who loves golfing – and it’s face plate is pink in color and so pretty – I just might get one for myself.  But yes – I’m glad that we are keeping Missy Moo occupied for this summer.  Maybe, next year – she can go for a golfing camp with her aunt and the local country club.

Summer Bugs & Insects

July 1st always reminds me of the time that we had to send Missy Moo to the hospital because of a very bad hives – but was it hives or mosquito bites that caused her to have that reaction – till today we are still not sure.  But from that day on – we never let her go to the same playground again and also have her sprayed with bug and insects repellent during her days out in the sun like today.  The only thing we don’t like about summer is the black flies and all the mosquitoes – even though we lived in town – the mosquitoes are terrible.   But as parents we also want to make sure that we find the right cream or spray for your kid – and so we went hunting for something that would last and one that doesn’t smell either.   We found a eucalyptus cream that work really well with her and it smells great too – and thus far when she uses it – she never has any trouble with any bugs or insects plus mosquitoes – I will make sure to take a picture of the cream and show you all.  It cost like $9 if I am not wrong and we bought it from Superstore.

This is the bug lotion I was talking about – it worked great !

Tracking My Walk

I just went for a walk to the park with Missy Moo – the sun was out but it was still chilly but the walk did me good – I’ve decided that I should track my walk and walk at least 5000 steps a day – to keep my blood sugar checked since I’ve been eating junk of late.   I know that it would definitely be easier to get my exercise when Missy Moo is in day camp during the summer rather than to wait for her to sleep at night to do my step aerobics on the Wii – coz’ I get way too tired in the evening and dozing off is my regular thing these days – so with the pedometer – I can keep track of how many steps i took and how many miles I walked.  Pretty cool eh!

Strep Virus On Skin

So it is my birthday today and Missy Moo has some sort of rash – that we thought was hives – but it had gotten worst today.  So we went ahead and booked her to see her family doctor.  This doctor is new in town and from away – so she went on a panic mode and decided that it was chicken pox.  She referred Missy Moo to a local pediatrician – who in turned confirmed that it was some kind of strep virus on the skin.  It wasn’t contagious – and she was given antibiotics and away she was sent home.  Missy Moo is alert – and eating well – but very itchy everywhere that’s all.

National Poison Prevention Week

Did you know that it is the National Poison Prevention Week this week?  Yup!  I didn’t know till today – ! so what does it show you?  this town – does not promote it – *sigh*.  But yes!  but home we also have it in the hotel I used to work for.  So for those who have children at home – whether they are yours or not – make sure – you put away poisonous stuff that the kids are not supposed to touch or eat and drink.  And you should warn you kids which are the DO NOT TOUCH stuff.  As for me – I tell Missy Moo all the time whenever I buy something and put it under the kitchen counter or washroom counter  – telling her that it is dangerous makes her aware that the bottle of poison – is not to be played with.   I also teach her to recognise the Hazard symbol that way – she will know even if she sees it somewhere – and she will understand she is not allowed near it.

Puff Plus With Lotion

Every family should have a few puff plus with lotion in their home – especially those with kids – the more you should get them.  I didn’t know about the Puff till last year – and every time Missy Moo starts sniffing or dripping with a cold – I make sure I have them at home, at school and also at our work place.  The Puff Plus with lotion really helped by not punishing the nose anymore than it should with regular tissue paper.  Regular tissue hurts the nose so fast – and its so painful – I really don’t mind spending a few extra bucks for the comfort of not having a painful and ugly looking nose.  I recommend this to anyone who has a cold or sensitive nose – definitely worth every penny spent.

Horse Riding This Weekend

We are going horse riding this weekend – if the weather permits – I got out our  equestrian clothing and aired it for the weekend.  It’s good exercise and the fresh air is going to do us a lot of good plus Missy Moo – is definitely going to like her own little horsey to go on.  You see during the summer – we had brought her out to the horse range for some classes – but during the fall – we got busy – and didn’t go back.  This weekend – the weather is calling for some sunshine and it will be up to 6 degree if we are lucky – so the friend with the horses – told us to come visit and go for some horse riding.  We are so excited actually! it had been too long since we’ve done it together as a family.

Overdosing On Vitamins

I woke up feeling lousy this morning – and by the middle of the day – I took a Contac C – but then I started thinking – i haven’t taken any vitamins for a long time – and I wonder if i should have taken some everyday.  But you see – I’ve always thought that if you eat a balanced diet – you don’t need the vitamins at all.  But then why do I feel an onset of attack from a cold all the time?  I would quickly take a Contac C – but I hate taking anything unless necessary – but if I don’t I would regret feeling lousy the next day.

Some people said that if you feel something coming up in your body – you should just overdose yourself with Vitamins and you will be alright.  Is that even true?  Can one get sick with taking too much vitamins?   Can vitamins caused the immune system to shut down or work better in case you are sick?  Well, I did a read up on it – because I don’t want to get into trouble and according to what i read – you can really get into trouble by overdosing on Vitamins.  So remember – don’t listen to people when they say to overdoes yourself on Vitamins.

Mom Can I Say You Are Fat?

Yes! I kid you not – that was what Missy Moo asked me – not because she was trying to be rude – but because she wants to know if it was ok to tell the truth – hahahah!  but seriously, we all know kids don’t lie right ?  so that must mean I did put on weight?  Time to watch what I eat and also exercise – but most importantly what diet pills really work so that I can go out and get them and lose some fats!  I need to look good for a wedding coming up this year – in fact 2 weddings.

Last year during one of Mr Moo’s cousin’s wedding – I definitely felt like a cow  – because the picture taken during the wedding – didn’t turn out that pretty.  My face looked like they were swollen – prove that I had put on some weight.  But later during the year – I took to exercising 30 mins a day – and that certainly helped – made me feel so much better.  But during the festive season – Thanksgiving then followed by Christmas and then the New Year’s celebration – and now with Chinese New Year coming soon – mannnn!!  i definitely need some good diet pills.   I’m on a mission!  to find the best and a diet pill that works with no side effects and don’t cost a bomb.

How To Worry Less

Missy Moo said to me several times during last week – “don’t worry so much mom!”  or “why do you worry so much mom?”   Yes! i admit I am a helicopter mom and a worrywart – so worry that at times – I wake up in the middle of the night planning minute by minute what I should do and what time I should do what.   And yes I stress easy – even when things don’t go the way I want it to go – or I missed doing something.   I worry too much and I know that – but worrying about your child and things like money and health isn’t a bad thing is it  – I asked the doctor?  or do i have an anxiety disorder like I read a few months ago – when I was in my psychiatrist office.

Overly anxious mom – makes overly anxious kids – and I’ve noticed that Missy Moo is always afraid that she might lose us in the mall – or even when we walked to another part of the store and she don’t see us – she freaks right out.  I used to wonder why?  but i remembered an incident in the grocery store whereby – we were blocked by a pillar and I can’t see her – so I went screaming for her.  Maybe – this is the cause?  And even in our own store – if she wasn’t behind the counter and all of a sudden lots of customers comes in and I can’t see her in front of the store – I would start calling her name – afraid that she might be led out of the store – or worst molested by a customer – since she is out of our sight.  Well, you get the drift right?  Yes!  I need to worry less – but how?  tell you in another entry.

Keep Warm This Winter

Brrrrr.. ! it’s cold here today – I wished I had an electric blanket in our computer room – for the kid early in the morning when she is getting ready for school.  You see – we don’t have our heat on in the night when we go to bed – and Missy Moo when she gets up in the morning – she does not like putting on a sweater nor her happy coat.  So if I can buy a electric blankie – that plugs into the USB port of her computer – because she watches a movie on her computer in the morning – now that would be good – actually great – while waiting for the room to warm up.   I just want to keep her warm and healthy – and I know she love those fleecy blanket – so if I can get one that is fleecy and pink – we will be all set for winter.

Slow Cooker With Timer For A Healthier Meal

It’s the new year and I’m going to get healthier – not only because of myself but because of my family.  In order to do that – I first need to be able to eat healthy.  I have been eating a lot of fish of late but that’s not enough because I eat lots of noodles too.  I’m deterred about using the slow cooker – because the timing needs to be right – when I cook – because i dislike leaving the cooker on – when I’m not home – or overcook or under cook the stew or soup.   So I made it a point to look for a slow cooker with timer – that way i have no excuse to cook healthy meals for me and Missy Moo.

This morning – I found one at Walmart – and it was roll back price – at only $40!  but alas ! the girl at Walmart – don’t even know where are they!  *sigh* – so we got a rain check – and as soon as they come in – I can get one at $40 – so no more excuses for not cooking and eating take outs.   Hopefully this helps eliminate eating nonsense and fried food or too much pasta or rice.

Is It Dust Or A Cold?

Missy Moo had been having this sniffle every now and then – she would be alright one day – and the next week – she gets the “cold” again.  And we’ve been noticing it since last year – and it just dawn on us – that she may not be having a cold but an allergy?   The house and the work place are really dusty even though we rarely open the door especially at home – but we all know dust is just about everywhere – so I have to be really careful and watch Missy Moo more closely – to see if she has an allergy or a cold from now on.

FluMist Review In Canada

So our pharmacist was in the other day at our store to rent a movie and had asked me about the Flumist and Chloe taking it – how we make out.  So here is what we went thru’ with FluMist.  Missy Moo loves it – no fuss.  Did she have a reaction?  a slight one – she came down with a little sniffle – about a week – but other than that – she was ok.

Flumist was only approved in Canada a few months ago – so i am thinking we are the first people who used it – but if you are thinking of using the Flumist and worried that it is a live vaccine – don’t worry – because everything went A – OK!  next year Mr Moo and I will be using the Flumist instead of the needle.  Oh ! another thing Canadians have to know – is the Flumist is not covered by the MSI – so you will have to pay for it.  The cost of a vile is $28 – so it’s not so bad but since it is the first time Missy Moo is using it – she needed 2 viles.  The FluMist has the H1N1 vaccine in it as well – so once used – you are protected against the H1N1 flu virus – so they said.
