FluMist Review In Canada

So our pharmacist was in the other day at our store to rent a movie and had asked me about the Flumist and Chloe taking it – how we make out.  So here is what we went thru’ with FluMist.  Missy Moo loves it – no fuss.  Did she have a reaction?  a slight one – she came down with a little sniffle – about a week – but other than that – she was ok.

Flumist was only approved in Canada a few months ago – so i am thinking we are the first people who used it – but if you are thinking of using the Flumist and worried that it is a live vaccine – don’t worry – because everything went A – OK!  next year Mr Moo and I will be using the Flumist instead of the needle.  Oh ! another thing Canadians have to know – is the Flumist is not covered by the MSI – so you will have to pay for it.  The cost of a vile is $28 – so it’s not so bad but since it is the first time Missy Moo is using it – she needed 2 viles.  The FluMist has the H1N1 vaccine in it as well – so once used – you are protected against the H1N1 flu virus – so they said.

FluMist

FluMist is a nasal vaccine that protects against infection with the influenza virus or the “flu.” FluMist contains live influenza virus that has been weakened so that it causes minimal or no symptoms. When FluMist is inhaled, the body responds to the weakened viruses in FluMist by developing antibodies that fight influenza viruses. These antibodies protect against later infections by the naturally-occurring influenza virus. FluMist is effective only against the strains of influenza virus that are included in it, and the strains of virus change from year to year. FluMist has no effect on the flu  once infection has begun. FluMist should be given shortly before the flu season begins to allow time for antibodies to be produced and for protection throughout the entire flu season. FluMist does not prevent 2009 H1N1  virus infection. The FDA approved FluMist in June 2003.

H1N1 & School

It’s bad enough that ppl who has the flu, cold or even the H1N1 come into our store.. without a nary of apology for being out in the public.. and spreading their germs.  If the kids don’t know any thing, it is up to you as a parent.. to keep them away from healthy kids. .and healthy folks.  You can imagine me getting  dark eye circle from worrying about it.. and worrying about sending my kid to school.

A kid from Missy Moo’s class was said to have H1N1 .. a few days ago.. but today i read on her FB.. that she is sending him back to school on Monday.. because he was bored.  *slap forehead* .. so to send Missy Moo to school or not..?? Really at a dilemma because if I don’t send her.. she would be bored at the store.. but if i send her.. i’m exposing her to all sorts of germs.  Tough being a mother eh. … and for those whose children has H1N1 .. DON’T SEND YOUR KIDS TO SCHOOL..  NO MATTER HOW BAD YOU ARE FEELING YOURSELF..!

3 New Risks Group For H1N1 Vaccine

So i was out getting a bar faucet and picked up a copy of the local papers and learned that after several weeks of miscalculated and misinformed medical officers.. they again released 3 new risks group that are eligible for the H1N1 vaccine.  Woohoo..!!!  should nova scotians be happy about it.. or still upset..??  Anyhow if you are in this group, you can now head to the your nearest community clinic to get vaccinated.

•Adults under 65 with chronic health conditions;

•People working in residential care facilities, community-based small-options homes, group homes and developmental residences;

•Anyone who lives with or cares for one of the following groups in their home:

-infants under six months old;

-people at high risk who can’t be immunized – for example, anyone with anaphylactic, or severe, allergies to eggs;

-those with significantly compromised immune systems who may not respond to vaccine.

All of the other previously-announced risk groups are also still eligible to receive the vaccine.

Well, we all know that the flu has been around ever since know when.. and yes.. you still can go on vacation .. if you want to .. or if you already have a business plan.  One cannot stop your life.. because some things are floating around the air.  But hold your horses..!! you still have to try and keep safe.. and do the right thing.  If you are flying .. and being in a cabin full of people in the air..  these are some of the things you want to think of.

Firstly, make sure.. you wash your hands.. all the time.. make sure.. you wear a mask at all times.  Do not place put anything the chair of the one in front of you .. because you never know.. what was in it.. before you came on board.  There are also many more things you can do.. if you are traveling, make sure you check with your doctor.. and the local condition where you are going.  In the meantime, try and enjoy your vacation or business trip if you are going.

With office furniture all set up and ready to go even before the opening.. you would think that they came prepared to vacinate those that wants the needles right..?  But the town was disappointed.. and more than 1000 were there and 900 were the only ones that got vaccinated.  And now they are saying that they are only giving out needles to risk group. How can they be so wrong with their estimation..?? Only the first day..and they are already changing the rules here. Had we known.. that they were gonna be short of supplies.. we would have lined up .. even before 7am.. to get it done. Now they announced that the  H1N1 flu vaccine is in short supply for the next few weeks and that until further notice.  JOY!  This is afterall Y.A.R.M.O.U.T.H eh..??

H1N1 Vaccine

So it’s all over news this morning that the H1N1 vaccine has arrived on our shores.  So while out for getting our pet supplies we met up with some friends and weigh the pros and cons about getting the needle.   As Mr Moo and I are at high risk – one with asthma and another with diabetes.. we can go in and get the first shots.  But no one will be turned away .. according to CBC if they arrived on the inoculation center.

We are still checking with our public nurse about it.. but this is what i’ve found out so far.  The government had spent like $300 million for this vaccine .. and 85% of any healthy adults who are vaccinated will develop the immunity for the H1N1 flu within 10 days.   In my humble opinion.. i don’t think there would be any harm in taking the vaccine, in fact – this should really keep us doubly safe especially since we deal with the public so much.  What’s your take on it..??
