Too Much Sodium For High Blood Pressure

So we went out for lunch today – and i came home feeling so lousy.  Not that i ate too much – nor unhealthily.   I had half a portion of spinach and cheese cannelloni and a ceasar salad – with half a piece of foccacia bread – everything in moderation – like I’ve always said – don’t want to have to go for  weight loss program eh.  But as soon as i had lunch i felt so lousy – we went home shortly after and I had to lie down for the afternoon.  Luckily it was Sunday and Mr Moo had brought Missy Moo out to play in the backyard.

So i figured i should look into my blood sugar but my sugar was normal – thus i’m left here wondering if it is because of too much sodium in my food thus causing my blood pressure to go up and causing my head to feel light headed.  You see being diabetic – we only think about our blood sugar but you and I know that being a diabetic comes in a package – and we cannot overlook the fact that our blood pressure may have gone up.  I don’t have a blood pressure measurement equipment – thus i cannot tell – but I felt a lot better at nite and by the morning – it was back to normal.  I daren’t eat any of the same kind of food no more that’s for sure – coz’ the feeling was horrid.  Food or not food – I can live without – coz’ it made me feel so lethargic and i’m looking for a blood pressure measurement equipment – just to protect myself.

Going Natural On Diabetes

So a customer walked in yesterday to try to get some popcorns from our store – you see we own a movie store – so naturally – he thought about us – when he wanted popcorns.  I also learned that he is diabetic – because i had offered him some candies instead – how embarrassing is that.   For you never think anyone else is diabetic but yourself right?  Anyhow we went on talking about other medication for diabetes and  human growth hormone because he ran out of his metformin and his doctor’s appointment is only in May – so he is currently taking some natural herb as a supplement.  I had asked him if it works – he said he didn’t feel any worst – or the same – plus the person – his brother who recommended it to him had kept his blood sugar at 4.5 – which is incredible.

Now having said that – i don’t know how much these natural herbs/supplement would cost me – because my medications are subsidized.   And although i would love to keep my blood sugar this low – i wonder how much i have to spend and plus my blood sugar is already kept low – but i noticed that after taking my diabetic medication – weight is slowly creeping up on me.  Well, maybe – i’m eating more?  more goodies from home ?  but i really don’t think so – i am eating normal – not excessive – so i am inclined to believe that it’s the new medication i am taking.  But I’ll update in a bit once i find out more from that customer in a few weeks and see how he is doing.  So what’s your take on going natural on diabetes medication?

Chinese Herbs For Confinement

Confinement – what is confinement ?  no silly – i’m not talking about being locked up after you have your baby but the chinese believe that you have to eat proper confinement food (herbs double boiled) and stay away from getting a cold and getting sick.  Now if you think of it – it is actually not crazy – because after you have given birth – your immune system is not at its strongest.  For some woman you may also have lost a lot of blood or went into trauma – not only you but your entire body.  So it’s only right to get your body rested and get your body properly nourished.

Unfortunately, for me even though i explained it to the spouse and the in-laws – they didn’t quite get it – so i ended up eating – like any other ordinary day because I can get the kind herbs I needed during confinement.   I regret it – and should have taken more steps to get those herbs – but i was sick all the time with morning sickness when i was having Missy Moo.  So having said all this – when a friend – from Asia was having her baby – we went shopping together for herbs in the city – of course got distracted and did our own shopping as well and some  big and tall clothing for her spouse.   But yes, we did get all the Chinese herbs that was needed and I was rather proud of it – because I know that she will be taken care of during her confinement.  So if you are like me, and is overseas and having a baby – try and try to get all the confinement herbs you need for the first 30 days – it is very, very important – trust me.  Else, like me after 6 yrs – and at 45 – i’m really feeling the downside of not taking care of myself – when i was in confinement.

Foot Exam For Diabetics

Yes, being a diabetic can be very troublesome because you are at high risk for everything.  Did you know that as a diabetic – you are at greater risk for heart disease, kidney disease, blindness, loss of limbs and lot of other unwanted complications.  My ex- doctor – wasn’t so kind as to lay it to me easy – he told me straight to my face – like i was a gone case – hahhaha!!  no comforting words – just a matter of factly – i think i would rather go to Dr Google instead of him – or I would recommend my friends to  click here instead of going to him – for anything they need to know about diabetes – because besides being blunt – my ex- doctor was oblivious to anything else.

Therefore, if you are diagnosed as a diabetic – do not take things lightly – be vigilant and one of the most important thing you have to do constantly is to exam your feet.  Check for calluses, foot ulcers, blisters – feel for bumps and lumps, which can be signs of muscle or bone injuries. Contact your doctor if symptoms persist or if you notice open wounds called ulcers.

People with diabetes are living longer and healthier lives than ever,” Jackson says. “All of the complications are becoming less common due to all the new tools we have for treatment.” You play an important role in prevention. Read on to start looking forward to living well with diabetes.

Toe Nails & Diabetics

A bunch of us were looking at some certified diamonds when one in our group talked about how her grandfather had to have some nail specialist come cut his toenails and the reason was because he cannot afford to hurt himself or he will bleed profusely and might cause his death?

For years now, I’ve always know about folks with diabetics must be careful and not cut themselves especially on their foot.  It was said that once a diabetic cut themselves, they may not recover and need to amputate their legs.   So how true is it..???  I’ve heard of  Pain from Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy – numbness in their feet or toes.  Some people has shooting pain and/or burning – so is it a myth – when it comes to not cutting or wounding yourself as a diabetic – things like that your doctor don’t tell you eh.  So what do you do..?? can a diabetic center help you?  I know the diabetic center here charge you an arm and a leg for their services/consultation - what about other places in the world?  Does your family doctor have the answer?  no worries – the next time i see mine – i’ll check with her – oh ! did i tell you i have a new doctor now?  the nazi one is no longer around – he moves to Toronto – Hallelujah!

Sugar Free Food

After finding out that I’m diabetic and needed immediate and drastic measures to be taken – such as insulin (which i refused) – i of course had to wise up about what kind of food i put in my body.  Afterall, i didn’t want to end up taking needles – which would kill me eventually anyhow.

So like many we try to educate ourselves and try to have a balance – but every now and then we see on labels of food – sugar free this and sugar free that – and another commonly seen on shelves of your supermarket is – no sugar added.  I asked Mr Moo – everytime – to read and confirm the ingredient for me – but what i missed out about these labels and claims of free sugar – didn’t tell us that the carbs and calories involved were not good for a diabetic too.  Ok  – so i hear you saying – eat also die – don’t eat also die ?  so how now?  i asked the same question every now and then too  – not so often now – because i learned that everything in moderation is the way to go.  Good luck !  donch gorge on the sugar free food now.

Canada’s MSI Health Card

So I started paying again for 2 medication – awaiting for my subsidy to kick in.  I don’t know when it will start because when we received the letter that tells us that we were eligible for subsidy – they also said that it was according to how much we make.  Anyhow, the two of my medication out of 6 cost about $100, therefore – I have to put off the business card printing for now – until the subsidy kicks in.

Alot of people are mistaken that it’s better to migrate to Canada because health care is free – it is – when you go to the hospital and sees a doctor – but if you are a diabetic like myself – and needs to take tons of medication – well, you are outta luck buddy – you still have to pay for it.  And it seems that the doctor recommends the most expensive – if they think that you can afford it – that was what my ex- doctor did.  The most expensive ones he will be prescribing it – i sometimes wonder if he gets kickbacks for doing it.  So yes, the rest of the world – it’s not all free!!

Colorectal Cancer

I was talking with Missy Moo best friend’s mother whose job is a surgeon at our local hospital here and she recommended that all women age 50 and older should be screened for colorectal cancer.  Luckily, I wasn’t the only one in our coffee session – so some of our friends asked why?  So she told us that the risk of developing colon cancer increases with age and about 9 outta 10 women with colon cancer are older than 50.

According to Missy Moo bf’s mother – women with the following risk factors should begin screening before age 50 and of course – we want to know if we are in that group.  So if you have a personal or family history of colon polyps or colorectal cancer, or a personal history of inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis or crohns disease or even has a family history of colorectal cancer syndromes than you are in that group.  I’m not in any of the risk factors mentioned .. but i’m 45 this year – so I should start going for a screen.  But I’m darn worried .. about what the screening entails – i’m gonna find out from her the next time we have our morning coffee together.

Smoking

Everyone knows smoking can kill but i wonder if it is the smell that bothers us more or just that the person will die…???  everyone dies sooner or later.. and some have lung cancer even though they never drink or smoke at all in their entire life.  My  grandparents smoke a lot too – but if only they  knew about e-cigarettes i think they not only save more they might not have us reeking in smoke when we leave to go home nor  need to worry about washing our hair each time visited them.  Honestly, i don’t mind them smoking and they are beyond the advice to quit because of health but like my mother said -no light, no burning and no tar nor real smoke – now that would have been nice – during the good old days.
