This is the first that i’ve heard but yes.. kids with a family history of Type 1 disbetes can cut their risk of developing the disease if they eat a diet of rich in Omega 3 fatty acids. This suggest that people might be able to develop nutritional interventions to prevent diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is the most common form of childhood diabetes and occurs when the immune system starts attacking insulin producing pancreatic cells. The risk of developing Type 1 diabetes is significantly higher if there is a family history.
Omega 3s are found in fish especially salmon, herring and mackerel, as well as flaxseed oil, walnut and soybeans. You can also try finding those Omega 3 enriched eggs if your child doesn’t like fish.
